DR SHANYA HAMMOND

Specialist Orthodontist
DClinDent (ORTHO)(SYD), BDENT(HONS)(SYD) DCD (ORTH)(SYD) MRACDS AOB CERT BPHARM

Dr Shanya was fortunate to study all three of her degrees at the University of Sydney. She began with a Bachelor of Pharmacy and then proceeded directly to a Bachelor of Dentistry, which she completed with Honours. During this time, Dr Shanya had the opportunity to travel to rural Australian communities to work with Indigenous populations. Dr Shanya was also the recipient of a scholarship that enabled her to visit the Ho Chi Minh Dental School in Vietnam for four weeks, and co-treat patients in their Cleft Lip and Palate Clinic.

Dr Shanya worked in Sydney for several years as a general dentist before choosing to specialise in Orthodontics by completing a three-year Doctorate at the University of Sydney.

Dr Shanya chose the Orthodontic Speciality after discovering a passion for working with teenagers in a field that significantly boosts their self-esteem. Visiting the orthodontist is often an enjoyable experience for young patients, particularly as they witness the continuous transformation of their smile. Through her specialist training, Dr Shanya is well-equipped to treat a wide range of patients—from teenagers to adults—and to manage cases ranging from early orthodontic interventions to orthognathic surgery involving braces. When not practicing, Dr Shanya enjoys spending time with her husband and three children and if she gets a chance to, rock climbing.

DR ALEX WENDEN

Specialist Orthodontist
B.Dent (Hons) Sydney, M.Orth (Hong Kong), M.Orth RCS (Edinburgh), B.MedSci (Sydney)

Ever since completing his own braces treatment as a teenager, Dr Alex knew he wanted to become an orthodontist. As a specialist orthodontist, he finds it incredibly rewarding to provide both children and adults with the treatment they need to gain confidence in their smiles.

Dr Alex completed his studies in Dentistry at the University of Sydney, graduating with Honours in 2007. Following this, he worked as a general dentist treating medically complex patients at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Camperdown. His passion for orthodontics led him to accept a three-year orthodontic training position at the University of Hong Kong, where he became a specialist in 2012. During this time, he also completed a Membership in Orthodontics at the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh, UK.

Since qualifying, Dr Alex has had the privilege of working as an orthodontist in Singapore, Sydney, and regional NSW — including Tamworth and Shellharbour. These diverse experiences have allowed him to treat a wide range of patients with varied and unique orthodontic needs.

While creating beautiful smiles involves countless clinical hours, Dr Alex believes it is equally important to stay up to date with the latest technology and research. He regularly attends local and international conferences to ensure his knowledge remains current and his patients continue to receive state-of-the-art treatment. Outside the clinic, he enjoys spending time with his family and, when the opportunity arises, snowboarding, scuba diving, and playing golf.

DR ASHWIN NAIR

Specialist Orthodontist
BDent (Hons)(Syd), DClinDent (Ortho)(Syd), MRACDS (Ortho), BMedSc (UNSW)

After completing a Bachelor in Medical Science at UNSW, Dr Ashwin went straight into dentistry at the University of Sydney, completing it with honours. He then worked in private practices in and around Sydney for seven years, working in all aspects of dentistry, while also participating in volunteer programs providing dental treatment to underprivileged people in Fiji.

Whilst in general practice, Dr Ashwin enjoyed treating children and teenagers and seeing the positive changes in their confidence whilst they underwent their orthodontic treatment with their orthodontist. After undertaking a number of continuing education courses, Dr Ashwin pursued his interest in orthodontics by returning to university. The three year specialist orthodontic program at the University of Sydney has provided Dr Ashwin with the skills to provide orthodontic treatment to a broad spectrum of patients, with treatments ranging from early intervention to orthognathic surgery.

It is vitally important to stay abreast of best practice and new developments within the field of orthodontics, and as such Dr Ashwin attends as many conferences and educational events as possible both in person and virtually. He is certified in the use of Invisalign, continuing to learn from the best in order to provide the most advanced treatment options to his patients.

While not at work, Dr Ashwin loves to spend time with his wife and friends, ideally with good food involved! He is also especially into both listening to and playing music and has been a part of a number of bands in and around Sydney. Sadly he is not nearly talented enough to quit his day job though (luckily for his patients!)

DR NATASHA PAUL

Specialist Orthodontist
BDS (Hons) Otago, DClinDent (Ortho) Sydney

Originally from New Zealand, Dr Natasha completed her Bachelor of Dental Surgery with First Class Honours at the University of Otago, graduating as one of only four students to receive this distinction. She then pursued her passion for orthodontics by completing the Doctor of Clinical Dentistry in Orthodontics at the University of Sydney.

Dr Natasha trained and worked at Sydney Dental Hospital, gaining experience in all aspects of orthodontic care, from early interceptive treatment to multidisciplinary and surgical cases. Her doctoral research focused on the effects of low-level laser therapy on pain during orthodontic treatment, reflecting her commitment to improving patient comfort and clinical outcomes.

She believes orthodontic care should be a positive experience for every patient. With a gentle, patient-centred approach, Dr Natasha takes time to listen, explain, and tailor each treatment plan to individual needs, ensuring comfort and trust. Patients value her calm, reassuring manner and attention to detail, knowing they are supported throughout their treatment journey.

Dr Natasha is committed to ongoing education and regularly attends national and international conferences to stay at the forefront of clinical innovation. She is especially proud to be joining the My Dental Team group and looks forward to helping patients achieve a smile they feel proud of.
Outside the clinic, Dr Natasha enjoys pilates, exploring Sydney’s cafés, weekends at the beach, and watching rugby with family and friends.

DR DAVID STUHMCKE

Specialist Orthodontist
BSc (UQ), DMD (USyd), DClinDent (Ortho) (USyd)

Dr. David is an orthodontist who values clear communication, thoughtful planning, and helping patients feel confident in their smiles. He grew up in Brisbane and completed a Bachelor of Science at the University of Queensland before moving to Sydney to study dentistry at the University of Sydney.

He spent six years working in both public and private practice, which gave him broad experience and a grounded understanding of patient care. Wanting to focus on the part of dentistry he enjoyed most — problem-solving, planning, and seeing the tangible difference orthodontic treatment can make. Dr David returned to the University of Sydney to complete his specialist training in orthodontics.

Outside of work, he enjoys time with his rescue greyhound, Frank, (the laziest dog in the world) and can often be found at the beach or out running.
