DR SHANYA HAMMOND

Specialist Orthodontist
DClinDent (ORTHO)(SYD), BDENT(HONS)(SYD) DCD (ORTH)(SYD) MRACDS AOB CERT BPHARM

I was fortunate enough to study all three of my degrees at the University of Sydney. I started with a Bachelor of Pharmacy and then proceeded straight to a Bachelor of Dentistry degree which I completed with Honours. During this time I also had the opportunity to travel to rural Australian communities to work with Indigenous communities. I was also fortunate to be the recipient of a scholarship which allowed me to visit the Ho Chi Minh Dental School in Vietnam for four weeks and learn about their dental school and procedures, as well attend their Cleft Lip and Palate Clinic.

I had the opportunity to work in Sydney for several years as a general dentist before making the decision to return to university to complete a three year Doctorate in Clinical Dentistry in Specialty Orthodontics at the University of Sydney.

I decided to specialise in Orthodontics because I realised I loved working particularly with teenagers in an environment and specialty that boosts their self-esteem. Going to the orthodontist isn’t stressful or frustrating, but enjoyable, especially when they see such a continuous improvement in their smile! My specialty programme has equipped me to work with a spectrum of ages from teenagers to adults, from early orthodontic interventions to orthognathic surgery with braces.

DR ALEX WENDEN

Specialist Orthodontist
B.Dent (Hons) Sydney, M.Orth (Hong Kong), M.Orth RCS (Edinburgh), B.MedSci (Sydney)

‘Ever since I finished my own braces treatment as a teenager, I knew that I wanted to become an orthodontist! As a specialist orthodontist, it is incredibly rewarding to be able to provide both children and adults with the treatment they need to find confidence in their smile.’

Dr Alex completed his studies in Dentistry at the University of Sydney, graduating with Honours in 2007. After this, he worked as a general dentist treating medically complex patients at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Camperdown. Still excited to pursue orthodontics, he accepted a three year orthodontic training position at the University of Hong Kong, and became a specialist in 2012. During this time he also completed a Membership in Orthodontics at the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh, UK.

Since then he has had the privilege of working as an orthodontist in Singapore, Sydney and also regional NSW: in Tamworth and Shellharbour. This has exposed him to a wide range of patients with vastly different and unique orthodontic situations.

Being an orthodontist involves countless clinical hours creating smiles but it is equally important to keep up to date with the latest technology and research for my own professional development and for his patients. Dr Alex regularly attends local and international conferences to ensure that his knowledge is current and that he continues to provide state of the art treatment. When not in the clinic he enjoys spending time with his family, and when he gets a chance to: snowboarding, scuba diving and playing a bit of golf!

‘Being able to give a patient the gift of confidence to smile is something I look forward to doing each and every day.’

Dr Maxim Milosevic

General Dental
Bachelor of Dental Surgery, James Cook University, Australia, 2018

Dr. Max is a skilled and compassionate orthodontist with a wealth of experience in dentistry. He completed his undergraduate studies at James Cook University in Cairns, with placements in Mackay and Hobart, before further expanding his knowledge through a month-long placement in Sri Lanka. After graduating, Dr. Max worked at Sydney Dental Hospital, gaining experience in general dentistry, oral surgery, special needs dentistry, and paediatric care.

Dr. Max’s passion for orthodontics developed as he worked alongside talented paediatric dentists and orthodontists, sparking his interest in the strategic, future-focused aspect of orthodontic care. He is committed to continuous learning, having graduated from The University of Sydney with a focus on cutting-edge orthodontic techniques and technology. He regularly stays updated with the latest research to provide the best care for his patients.

A strong advocate for inclusivity, Dr. Max believes that everyone deserves a healthy, confident smile, regardless of their background. As a member of the rainbow family, he is dedicated to creating a welcoming and supportive environment for all his patients. When he’s not at the clinic, you can find Dr. Max spending time with his spirited long-haired sausage dog, Dante.

Dr. Max is thrilled to be part of the Orthodontics at Penrith team, where he works with patients from across the Penrith region, helping them achieve their best smiles and enhanced confidence.

DR ASHWIN NAIR

Specialist Orthodontist
BDent (Hons)(Syd), DClinDent (Ortho)(Syd), MRACDS (Ortho), BMedSc (UNSW)

After completing a Bachelor in Medical Science at UNSW, Dr Ashwin went straight into dentistry at the University of Sydney, completing it with honours. HHe then worked in private practices in and around Sydney for seven years, working in all aspects of dentistry, while also participating in volunteer programs providing dental treatment to underprivileged people in Fiji.

Whilst in general practice, Dr Ashwin enjoyed treating children and teenagers and seeing the positive changes in their confidence whilst they underwent their orthodontic treatment with their orthodontist. After undertaking a number of continuing education courses, Dr Ashwin pursued his interest in orthodontics by returning to university. The three year specialist orthodontic program at the University of Sydney has provided Dr Ashwin with the skills to provide orthodontic treatment to a broad spectrum of patients, with treatments ranging from early intervention to orthognathic surgery.

It is vitally important to stay abreast of best practice and new developments within the field of orthodontics, and as such Dr Ashwin attends as many conferences and educational events as possible both in person and virtually. He is certified in the use of Invisalign, continuing to learn from the best in order to provide the most advanced treatment options to his patients.

While not at work, Dr Ashwin loves to spend time with his wife and friends, ideally with good food involved! He is also especially into both listening to and playing music and has been a part of a number of bands in and around Sydney. Sadly he is not nearly talented enough to quit his day job though (luckily for his patients!)
